USDA announces 2012 small grains Projected Prices

Farm and Ranch September 19, 2011 The USDA’s Risk Management Agency has announced 2012 Projected Prices for crop insurance for winter wheat and winter barley and the Malting Barley Additional Value Price for Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional RMA office has the Projected Price for winter wheat.

Seufer: “$8.05 a bushel for wheat, winter wheat.”

Seufer says the Projected Price for winter barley is $6.33 a bushel.

Seufer: “And each of those have a volatility factor and that goes along with our revenue crop insurance. And with that volatility factor the winter barley has a 0.27 and winter wheat has a 0.29. That volatility factor is based on the volatility of that revenue price throughout the next year until we announce the Harvest Price next September as well.”

The RMA also announced the additional value price for 2012 winter type malting barley under option A at 75-cents a bushel.

The Projected Prices for spring wheat and spring barley will be announced next March but Seufer reminds growers that the sales closing date for both winter and spring wheat is coming up September 30th and that’s the deadline for barley with winter coverage as well.

Growers are advised to meet with their crop insurance agent.
