Washington farmers request claim packages for USDA discrimination

Washington Ag Today September 1, 2011 As part of continued efforts to close the chapter on allegations that discrimination occurred at USDA in past decades, a process has been developed to resolve the claims of Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who assert that they were discriminated against when seeking USDA farm loans.

USDA says a 58 claims packages have been requested so far with from Washington state.

The program provides up to 50-thousand dollars for each Hispanic or woman farmer who can show that USDA denied them a loan or loan servicing for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000.
