The wolf plan and lethal take

The wolf plan and lethal take

Washington Ag Today August 23, 2011 The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s recommended wolf management plan provides for lethal control of animals when depredation of livestock becomes a problem. But Jack Field, Executive Vice President of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association says lethal take is not so simple, particularly since the wolf is still federally listed in western Washington and state listed in all of Washington.

Field: “At a minimum until the state wildlife commission passes a WAC and authorizes the take of a state listed species and until the federal government consults and authorizes take of a listed species, because they are listed in the western two-thirds of the state, there will be no lethal take in Washington state.”

The Fish and Game Commission holds a meeting on the wolf management plan Monday, August 22nd in Ellensburg.

Now how here is Jack McQuinness with the Stockland Livestock Report from Davenport.

:250 cattle on the market. Strong sale on the cows and bulls, about steady with what we had last week. Best of the cows in the mid-70s. Good active trade with several packing houses represented. Feeder cattle in short supply.

Calling everything steady. Futures started the week higher and that’s good news. A special feeder sale here the 29th. We will take Labor Day the 5th off and be back with another special on September 12th. It is all here at Stockland in Davenport.

Thanks Jack.
