Bernardo expects only small reductions in WSU ag research and extension

Washington Ag Today June 21, 2011 Washington State University has offset some of the reduction in state support for the next biennium with a tuition increase but the university still needs to trim 20 million dollars in spending.

Dan Bernardo, dean of the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences, told a luncheon audience at the recent WSU Lind Field Day that he anticipates rather small reductions for ag research and extension in this round.

Bernardo: “We owe a huge thank you to our president. Many of you have met him. He was the first WSU president to ever be at Lind. Twice in one-year. Okay. So this guy is really saving our bacon.”

Now the report from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuinness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Short run of cattle, right around 200 on the market here. Cows and bulls three to four lower. We had a top at 70 on the better yielding cows. All of the cows into the high 60s so still a comparatively good market as we head into summer. Short supply of feeder cattle. No trend there. We will have a regular cattle sale next week and a special feeder sale on the 18th of July, so keep that in mind. Horse sale this Saturday. That will start at two o’clock. Tack at 11. And our small animal sale on 28th. That is a week from tomorrow. Here at Stockland. Thanks for listening. Thanks for your Business and will we talk to you again on Thursday morning.

Thanks Jack.
