County Committee nominations begin soon

Washington Ag Today May 26, 2011 Farmers and ranchers who want to have a hand in implementing Farm Service Agency (FSA) programs now have a chance to do so. The nomination period to serve on county committees begins June 15, 2011 and runs through August 1, 2011.

FSA State Executive Director Judy Olson says, “County committees guarantee the fair and equitable administration of FSA programs. The nomination process ensures the committees reflect their local demographics and assist the agency with implementing programs.”

The three-to-five person committees are the place producers can appeal most agency decisions. Committees also make decisions helping to determine program payments. The committees meet approximately once a month.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

This is Jack McQuiness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. 500 cattle on our market here on Monday. Cows traded 3-4 in some instances $5 lower. Most of the cows trading in the high 60s low 70s with some of the low grade cows in the 50-dollar money. Bulls topped at 93 and we will call that 4 to 5 lower. Active market. We had three to four packers. We lost a packing house in Nampa that was a big part of our market but it was an active market. That certainly impacted our prices. The market is still probably dollars higher than what we have seen before. Feeder cattle fully steady. Still plenty of demand for grass type cattle and cattle up to 850 pounds but a limited test on the feeders. No sale this coming Monday. No horse sale for a month because of a disease outbreak. Keep in mind our small animals will sell the 4th Tuesday of every month from here on out.

?

Thanks Jack.
