Tree Fruit Industry Readiness

Tree Fruit Industry Readiness. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

I have had to take a number of tests in my life...not just for school but things as simple as a driving test. Without a little bit of preparation you might just as well forget it. The same goes for being part of the tree fruit industry. Each year you are asked to not only grow and harvest a good crop but follow that up with record keeping on your operation. This is where GRAS2P or the Growers Response to Agricultural Safe and Sustainable Program. Lacy Gray has another GRAS2P tip.

GRAY: Another leg of horticultural sustainability is plant nutrition. Documenting your nutrient management plan (perhaps with recommendations from qualified advisors) helps to manage applications in order to maximize the efficacy and/or uptake of important nutrients. Then, when applications occur, be sure to record and reference these to the production unit with a nutrient application log. It's as simple as the A-B-C-D's. A - Audit Readiness; B - Better Management Systems; C - Crop Specific & Science Based Criteria and D - Documentation Systems.

If you’d like more information on GRAS2P visit their website at www.gras2p.com where you’ll not only find more information about the program but tools and training so you will be prepared.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
