2-17 FB Otter & China

In a recent chat with Governor Otter, I learned that our exports in agriculture and other materials are increasing rapidly.China is rapidly approaching the point of being one of our largest trading partners. They buy an awful lot more from Idaho than we buy from them. China is going to grow and their appetite for Western culture is going to continue to grow. They’re adding 10,000 cars a day to the roads and as those people have the net disposable income to buy a car, they’re also going to increase their appetite for the kinds of foods that they buy, the kinds of lumbers and minerals they buy. China’s a great trading partner. Someone said at the end of the 20th century ‘When food doesn’t cross borders, troops will. If you take a look at the history of a lot of wars, except religious wars, the best way to keep peace is keep trading and talking.
