Lots of deadlines; Beef Board budget

Washington Ag Today September 30, 2010 Today, September 30th is a deadline for several USDA programs. First, for those landlords or farmers who had land accepted in the recent general Conservation Reserve Program sign up:

Olson: “They have until September 30th to get all the signatures on their paperwork.”

That was Washington State Farm Service Agency Director Judy Olson.

Also, today is the final sales closing date for federal crop insurance on several 2011 crops including wheat and also barley, mint, dry pea and lentil with winter coverages.

Finally, today is the deadline to apply for the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program, or SURE to receive payments on 2008 losses.

The Beef Promotion and Operating Committee has approved the Cattlemen’s Beef Board Fiscal Year 2011 budget of 42.8 million dollars on a total of 42 national check off programs and associated costs. The budget is two percent less than this past year’s and 20 percent less than just five years ago.

Of the total 42.8 million dollar plan, about 18.1 million is for promotion, including consumer advertising. About 6.7 million is for research projects such as beef safety or product enhancement. More than 4.6 million dollars is for consumer information programs and there is 5.7 million for foreign marketing.
