There’s an old rule in sports…those that can do…those that can’t teach. Here’s an example. Arguably, the greatest hockey player ever to lace on a pair of skates is Wayne Gretzky. The game was so obvious to him, that he broke every record in the book. As a coach of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, he was shaky at best. That seems to be my problem with carbon sequestration, as in, taking CO2 out of the atmosphere. I ran a story the other day that had a guy on who talked about a farming technique that could remove all the CO2 in the atmosphere since the beginning of the industrial revolution. I asked him how and he talked for 20 minutes without giving me the answer. I did my research and learned that if farmers will raise their crops in such a way as to maximize the size of the living root system, there will be revolutionary amounts of carbon sequestration…meaning depositing carbon into the ground. Range Manager Steve Rich says there are additional benefits as he discusses a farmer who used this system: “He was making 20% profit net per year meaning he could buy his ranch every 5 years.”
