7-22 IAN Day in the Life

7-22 IAN Day in the Life

A day in the life of an Idaho farmer and how the cold wet spring has affected him and others. I’m David Sparks. I’ll be right back with that story. A lot of folks from Boise, particularly the richer people, often make the trek over to Sun Valley which is almost due East. Part of that drive is along Route 20 which renders vista views of mountains and fields. Along Route 20 you come across the little town of Fairfield which is known for two things in my mind…beautiful farms and speed traps. Anyway, Danny Ferguson is a Fairfield  farmer who like so many others, endured the cold, wet spring.  We went out to visit in the field and here’s his take on his hay and wheat crops: “I think there’s sufficient hay this year. Last year’s poor quality hay caused a challenge cause there’s some of that left over. Some of the early first crop over in the Treasure Valley and Boise they cut it the first of June and picked up about 6” of rain…it was pretty black. There’s some really nice hay crops over here in Eastern Idaho, Pocatello, Twin Falls. The wheat crops look really good, they’ve stooled out well. They’re a little late, we’re behind our normal schedule.
