New Favorite: Washington Riesling

New Favorite: Washington Riesling

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I am a fan of Riesling and I enjoy Riesling from Washington very much. Today I thought I would share some of my recommendations for Riesling from the state of Washington.

When it comes to selecting my favorite Rieslings it is a challenge as there are so many good ones being made in Washington state, this is just a small glimpse into the wonderful choices for Riesling. Please note that most of the Riesling grapes are being grown in the Columbia Valley irregardless of where the winery is located. The wine that I have cherished for many years is a Riesling made by Columbia Winery.  The Columbia Cellar Master’s Riesling, although the recipe is said to have been an accident, it has truly gained notoriety for its consistently delicious character, making it one of my top picks from Washington. A newer winery is Long Shadows and the Poet’s Leap Riesling is inspired by a German style that is well suited to Washington grapes just delicious. Then there is a wine made by Marie Eve at Forgeron, her Riesling is also consistently well made and enticing, it is a wine that has some aging potential. I would be remiss if I did not mention Kiona and the dedication over the years they have made to Riesling in all styles. The wines are juicy and characteristically Kiona. And that is a good thing. Riesling is wine that I am overjoyed to hear is coming back into fashion. Try a few from my home state of Washington and let me know what you think by contacting me at Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
