Idaho Red Meat Report

 Well the USDA’s statistical branch released figures for March and the news seems pretty positive in view of all the recent news of downturns in the beef industry. Here’s spokesperson Vince Mathews with a report. “We released a press release today dealing with the production of red meat showing that it’s up 1% from last year the total for 2009 was 19.3 million pounds and that is up 1%. The production was up 11% from February 2009 and the accumulated red meat production totals 57.2 million pounds   for the entire year which is up 7% from a comparable period from a year earlier.”

That must mean good news for the beef producers. “Yes it does indicate that it’s up. 1% is not a big change but it is up slightly from last year.”  1% up beats 20% down. “Oh yes. Anything with a positive is good news.”       .
