China reassusred and EPA's McCarthy says farewell

The White House reports it has sought to reassure China after President-elect Donald Trump's phone call with Taiwan's leader last week, which the Obama administration warned could undermine progress in relations with Beijing.

Security Council officials spoke twice with Chinese officials over the weekend to reassure them of Washington's commitment to the "One China" policy and to "clarify the continued commitment of the U.S. to our longstanding China policy."

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy continued her farewell tour, telling an audience in the nation's capital, she's confident her successor will understand the importance of the agency's mission to protect the nation's air, water and land.

Asked whether she'd change anything in how the Clean Water Rule, aka WOTUS was rolled out, McCarthy reiterated she thinks the agency did a great job in terms of outreach.

The ag community has been nearly unanimous in criticizing the rule.
