Fish and Game Conducts Special Controlled Hunt Drawing

I received an email from Idaho Fish and game stating that some hunters who were unsuccessful in last month's controlled hunt drawing are eligible for a special drawing. Fish and Game released 283 additional tags for deer, elk and pronghorn for the special drawing. A new law that went into effect July 1 allows 10 and 11 year olds to hunt big game. So with the thought in mind that younger boys and girls might be out with their moms or dads in the woods, I called Sportsmen's Warehouse sales associate Tim Dulaney for some advice and as has always been the case with Sportsman's Warehouse sales Associates, Tim delivered. "If I'm taking a youngster hunting, what rifle would you suggest? If you are hunting deer or antelope I would suggest a :243. That caliber is quite kid friendly. Anybody with small stature, it works well for them. Recoil is very low, performs great. It is a little under gun for elk but it works great for deer and antelope. You can get the firearms from around $499 up to about as much as you want to throw at it. They build a lot of youth configurations. They have a shortened butt stock, a shortened barrel so it's a little quicker swinging, and some of them are already scoped as a total package. Both Remington and Savage build packages like that. They are all set up and ready to go.
