Piece-Rate Workshops & Grapes Destroyed

Piece-Rate Workshops & Grapes Destroyed. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Anyone who has to deal with the new piece-rate ruling will want to check out the wafla webinars on the subject. wafla’s Dan Fazio explains.

FAZIO: We’ve been in close contact with the two biggest, labor intensive law firms in Eastern Washington; Jeffers, Danielson, Sonn & Aylward up in Wenatchee. They’re going to share with wafla members the guides that they’ve been giving their clients and that’s on Thursday, July 30th at 11am and then the next week, Stokes Lawrence Velikanje Moore & Shore from Yakima is going to have a webinar on August 6 and just go to wafla.org to register for those free webinars.

Herbicide spray drift is being blamed for the loss of 12.7 tons of pinot noir grapes from the Willamette Valley Vineyards. Court documents claim they began noticing signs of herbicide drift back in May 2013 from other nearby crops including grains, hay, seed grass and corn. The loss in dollars is over $400-thousand dollars which would have come from 826 cases of wine produced from the grapes. Willamette Valley Vineyards is seeking double or triple that amount under provisions of Oregon law enacted to protect agriculture.

That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
