National forests and grasslands in Colorado are slated to get at least 188 jobs, said Lawrence Lujan, Forest Service spokesman. Other states adding positions include Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

"Temporary employees perform critical work and serve a diverse group of users during peak summer months," Lujan said. The Forest Service hires a variety of occupations such as fire, trails, forestry, engineering, wildlife, recreation, fisheries, archaeology and administrative support.

The hiring will take place in three phases. Hiring for wildland fire positions and other early season jobs is slated for Jan. 7-14. The majority of non-fire, temporary jobs will come online in February. The remaining positions will be available in March.

The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests will have 22 positions available in the first round of hiring, Lujan said. The forests span Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand, Jefferson, Larimer and Park counties. Those who wish to apply can visit usajobs.gov. More information is also available on the U.S. Forest Service's website.
