Hi everybody it’s time for your Land and Livestock Report here on the Ag Information Network of the West-I’m Russell Nemetz.

Well, during the recent Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show in Phoenix, AZ, “Pioneer Woman” Ree Drummond of the Food Network was the keynote speaker of the opening general session.

I had the chance to interview Ree as part of the NCBA’s RFD-TV program Cattlemen to Cattlemen and asked her what it was like to address the Cattle Industry Convention.

“Well it was great you know I usually get a little nervous speaking in front of crowds but when I walked in I saw a bunch of cowboy hats and boots and you know I kind of felt relaxed I just felt like I was among friends so it was a lot of fun. I don't think of myself as a you know a proponent or spokesperson of the beef industry but indirectly I am so it was an honor to be able to speak.”

She and her husband Ladd and family ranch in Oklahoma and she talked about how she uses beef in her recipes.

“Enthusiastically! You know beef is just what we eat when you're a ranching family. Of course, you can't be a ribeye steak but you know beef is a pretty versatile meat so it's always it's always there lurking in our kitchen.”
