The American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers program includes both men and women between the ages of 18-35. The objective of the Young Farmers & Ranchers program is to provide leadership in building a more effective Farm Bureau to preserve individual freedoms and expand opportunities in agriculture. Kalena Bruce, 2017 YF&R Chair stated that “The YF&R program can be used to develop leadership skills & achieve personal growth that members can take back to their homes where they have the most impact as leaders in their rural communities.” That is exactly what has happened.

— “I want to thank you for the food drive, you put a lot of food in that back room over there. We appreciate it, we are going to pick it up and distribute it to 220 organizations around the state.” Idaho Food Bank grants coordinator Michael Shuman is thanking the 225 members of the Idaho Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers program who made a donation to the food bank while visiting the capital city this week. “Hunger is a problem that hides in plain sight. Most of the people who come and get our services do it for a maximum of six months. Most of them are done after that. It’s a hand up, short-term thing.” The group donated several pallets of food. Farmer Alex Reid of Twin Falls County says food producers are happy to give the gift of food. “This is our first year participating in the Harvest for All through the American Farm Bureau and we wanted to do our part as Idaho producers to give back to people who have a need for food.
