The Benefits of Grain Fed Beef

Hormones and grain have become bad words to the environmental and health conscience groups. I'm Jeff Keane; The Western Livestock Reporter related a study by the Hudson Institute's Center for Global Food Issues showed beef produced by a grain and supplemental growth hormone diet results in 40 percent less greenhouse gases and saves two-thirds more land for nature than organic grass feed-beef. This was not the most interesting point in the article to me. What caught my attention was the number of agencies and organizations that considered supplemental hormones use in beef production was safe for humans including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, the World Health Organization and the Codex Alimentarius Committee of the World Trade Organization. Hold it ! here's two more, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and a conference of expert toxicologists established by the European Agriculture Commission. Now, you should be familiar with at least one of this list. The one that was amusing to me was the European Agriculture Commission study since the European Union used the use of hormones in U.S. beef as a way to block our beef from entering that market. I hope this report gets out to more consumers since so many people always ask about hormones in beef. I guess they ask because they have been misled by so many misinformed experts who really weren't.
