Assistance for rural development

Washington Ag Today August 30, 2011 Washington State University Extension and two multi-county regions in rural Washington and Oregon will participate in a national initiative to help rural American communities develop economic opportunities specific to their regions. The selected regions are the Tri-County Economic Development District, which includes Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties; and the Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, encompassing Klickitat and Skamania counties in Washington and Hood River, Wasco and Sherman counties in Oregon.

Participants will receive strategic planning resources, training and data base tools along with technical assistance as part of USDA’s Stronger Economies Together program.

Now the Stockland Livestock report.

This is Jack McQuinness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. A nice sale. We had yearlings and calves, a very strong sale. The lightweight calves under 500 lbs up as high as $1.60 and the heifer calves as high as a $1.45. 850 lbs yearlings trading at $1.28.50, that was for some black, and black and white faced steers. The heifers got as high as $1.22 on the same weight. We sold some nine-weight cattle. Cattle weighting right up against 1000 to 986 pounds consigned by Harders for $1.17.50. No sale next Monday. Our next sale here at Stockland is September 12th.

Thanks Jack.
