1-11 SS First Pheasant

1-11 SS First Pheasant

A buddy’s  1st pheasant. Good old Josh Mills. Always sharing,  always extending himself, well he recently showed that spirit with one of his best friends. “I have a good friend, Kevin, over in Wenatchee, that takes me back and goose hunting on the Columbia River every year. He has wanted to come over and try to pheasant hunt. That is something my pop and I know pretty darned well. We took them out a couple of weeks ago. We were talking it up. We’ve had a pretty good season. I was explaining that there were some small differences between pheasant hunting and duck hunting. One was that you’d  better be ready at all times. We were walking down through some canyons and draws that we have access to. I ended up taking 2 away from him because he wasn’t quite ready and you have to be at the ready. It was middle of the day and I was hoping Kevin would get his 1st pheasant. The dogs were working hard and we hunted down in this two-mile canyon and we were coming to the end. Normally my father and I take a left and head for another draw. Well all of a sudden I said dad let’s go to another draw and he said no I think we should go another hundred and 50 feet. The dogs are going to get hot and they will smell a bird and put it up for Kevin. Kevin will get his 1st bird. I am like what ever. So we go the extra hundred and 50 feet and about at 100 ¼ or 100 and  a half here come the dogs getting really hot on the trail of a pheasant. There was just one spot for a bird to be and I put Kevin on that spot. The dogs jumped into the cover and up pops a rooster and Kevin put the hammer down and down went his rooster and my father said, I told you so, I told you so.
