1-5 SS Dragonfly

1-5 SS Dragonfly

An unusual catch while flyfishing. What would you think would be the least likely thing to take one of your flies while flyfishing?

David Malm is an avid fisherman. I don’t know what the odds are on a lot of things but the fact is that when you do something a lot of times, you significantly increase the odds of something odd happening. And so it is with David. He says he has his job just to support his habit of fly fishing, which he does every day that he can. “Placed a tiny little fly on the water hoping that a fish would take it and out of nowhere comes this dragonfly, plops on the water, next thing I know I’m flying a dragonfly kite. He just flew around for a couple of minutes until he dropped it. I was hoping it was not embedded and it wasn’t. He just wouldn’t let it go. He was stubborn. I caught a gull and a bat when I was flyfishing. I caught a bat over on the Deschutes in Bend, Oregon. My brother caught a gull down in Silverwood Lake in Southern California while he was trolling. As he was reeling it in a huge striper bass took the gull.” I learned about these stories when I  stopped in at my favorite watering hole to have a beverage. After hearing David talk, I needed a drink.
