Legends of Wine

Legends of Wine. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Don Mercer will be this years Legends of Washington Wine inductee. Mercer is the twelfth legend to be honored. April Reddout with the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center talks about Mercer.

REDDOUT: Don is widely recognized as a pioneer of the Horse Heaven Hills planting the first Vitis vinifera on Horse Heaven Hills, knows as Block One of cabernet sauvignon. he and his brother and his dad did all that work to irrigate and they were the first ones to plant.

The Legends event is scheduled for Friday, August 7th beginning at 6pm. You will need tickets for the event.

REDDOUT: They’ll be enjoying Horse Heaven Hills wine throughout the evening starting with a welcome splash of Viognier. all the vineyards up there, they’re all farmed by people who are friends or relatives or business partners. It’s a very close knit family and so the wine is all representing history associated with Mercer’s or Mercer Vineyards.

Make plans to attend and enjoy a social hour, four-course plated meal, lovely wines, a presentation, and an exciting live auction to benefit the Clore Center.

REDDOUT: It’s actually a really exciting menu this time because the Mercer’s were very hands on in designing it. They wanted to represent a lot of their family tradition. It’s just neat how everything ties in and everything’s related back to their family history
