Colorado Energy Office Has $500,000 Available to Assist Ag Industry

With commodity prices down, ag producers are examining their bottom line and looking for ways to increase efficiency and decrease costs. When examining your ag operation's expenses, have you considered your energy costs?

For those Colorado ag irrigators, dairies, greenhouses, nurseries or cold storage facilities, that are participating in energy projects, there is new grant monies available as

Colorado Energy Office's Senior Program Manager Michael Turner explains

Turner: "On June 20th we released the second tranche of money from our grant from USDA through the regional partnership program. So we released $500,000. This money is intended to actually pay for projects that were identified through the energy audits for participants in our Colorado Energy Efficiency program."

Turner encourages ag producers to consider participating as there are many grant opportunities once you've participated in the energy audit. If you are an ag producer who would like to learn more about the program and energy audits, go to www.colorado.gov/energy Turner says

Turner: "There you can fill out an application, learn a little bit more about the program. The first step is getting your foot in the door by filling out the application. If you have any questions about the application or the program, there is a number that you can call, there is an email address you can send questions to. We already have a que of producers for next year, so now is the time to get that application in. Then we will move forward from there — get you introduced to an energy coach and get the audit."
