Adam Herges, sustainability agronomist advisor for the Mosaic Company, highlights their efforts in nutrient stewardship and how they are helping farmers become better stewards of the land.

“From a nutrient stewardship standpoint, the Mosaic Company, Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems actually worked with several partners in Ohio and launched, helped launch the 4R certification program. So that's taking a science-based approach to how we manage crop nutrition, whether it's manure or fertilizer, and infusing the latest science and research so that we so we can continue to evolve our learning and our understanding of how nutrients move across the landscape.”

Herges says, within that system, they have helped to validate over 5 million acres in the US.

“That have moved from sort of a basic approach to nutrient management under Four R’s to more of an intermediate and more advanced approach. And so what we've seen in that is we've actually seen increases in nutrient use efficiency. We've seen some farmers actually look at, you know, variable rate technology across the field. So in some instances, we've seen, you know, reduction in fertilizer use on a particular field and still maintaining, or actually improving crop production.”
