Save Family Farming Documentary Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m This is today’s Fruit Grower Report. “Farming on the Brink” is the title of a new documentary from Save Family Farming that should be out soon.Executive Director, Ben Tindall says the documentary cuts right to the chase when it comes to the ag workforce and what it is that they want and need …
TINDALL … “They want to be able to do the work, but these potentially well-intentioned restrictions and regulations really are hurting those farm laborers and those farmworkers who aren’t getting the work that they desire, aren’t getting the hours that they need and they’re having to see some serious cuts. And a lot of times they’re having to leave agriculture themselves to look for work elsewhere because they can’t afford it.”
And for those who’ve never worked on or spent much time on a farm, Tindall says this is for them as well …
TINDALL … “The story that needs to be heard in the urban populations and, you know, the Seattle’s and Spokane’s of Washington, that’s the stories that need to be heard in the legislature and that our policy makers need to hear.”
Tindall says most farming stereotypes are long gone …
TINDALL … “This is not just some guy in a truck going around, you know, getting people to jump in the back and come work in his fields. No, this is a very sophisticated human resources developed, established structure that farms, by law, have to have and we really want to highlight that.”
