As Congress has reconvened, R-CALF, United Stock Growers of America, has several pressing issues on the table, with the most urgent being the controversial decision to allow Paraguay and beef into the US market. CEO Bill Bullard on what R-CA>F USA says are the potential risks and implications for American producers.

“When the USDA provided the opportunity to begin importing Paraguayan beef, Paraguay is a country not free of foot add mouth disease, and we are importing already Paraguayan beef, but the US Senate has passed a resolution of disapproval that would overturn that rule. And so that resolution of disapproval to disapprove the rule that allows fresh Paraguay and beef in the United States is now in the house. And so as soon as the house reconvenes, we hope that they will pick that resolution of disapproval up and we will finally overturn this through what we view to be an unnecessary and avoidable risk for the US cattle industry. And so we're looking forward to that opportunity.”

Once again, that is R-CALF, United stock Growers of America, CEO, Bill Bullard. Be sure to stay tuned as we provide more updates on the Paraguayan beef situation.
