From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Hard to believe but August is here and, before you know it, it will be time for the 31st Annual Washington State Tree Fruit Association’s Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament that supports students from the industry.

WSTFA President Jon DeVaney says it’s coming fast so don’t wait …

DeVANEY … “Please do so because it’s filling up fast. It did sell out last year. Our date this year is Tuesday, August 27th at Highlander in East Wenatchee. We have a really good turnout every year and that event has become increasingly popular.”

DeVaney says changes have been made to better suit everyone’s schedules …

DeVANEY … “We did move the timing in recent years from early August to later August. There’s just been so much with longer cherry seasons developing over the past few years, overlapping with the start of apples and pears, it was just too busy a time for folks. But that late August time frame has been working better.”

And, DeVaney says it’s not too early and not too late …

DeVANEY … “We set the timing for the middle of the day. So we start around 9:30 and we wrap up around 3:00pm, and then go into awards and a buffet. That allows folks to keep it withing the normal workday, even though they’re not necessarily … ‘working’.”

Go to the WSTFA website at www.wstfa.org to sign up for the 31st Annual WSTFA golf tournament. OR, tune in tomorrow for more.
