I get asked all the time from friends of the show about wolf hunting. what with the pressure on elk, deer and the like, Sportsmen just want to know if they can hunt wolves. I turned to Mike Jenkins of Upfront Outfitters, Mike operating big game hunts out of Oregon and asked him if he guided any wolf hunts. No. Speaker2: If you want to stay out of jail, Oregon does not allow wolf hunting. Very few states. Idaho has it now. Montana. Wyoming now allows you to hunt wolves. Oregon, Washington. They still are a little bit behind the times with that. I'm not sure if the states are too liberal to allow that in the future, but hopefully with the increased population that those regulations and those wolves will be delisted in these states as well. Speaker1: Do you do a lot of elk hunting? Roosevelt's, amongst others? Have you noticed an impact on those populations that you think are, Wolf related in the. Speaker2: Rocky Mountain Elk? Yes, with the Roosevelt Elk. No, we just don't have the wolves. You know, that's more of a cat issue with the Roosevelt Elk, with the Rocky Mountain Elk. The wolves absolutely disturb their habitat and chase them around. But the elk learned to adapt. They've been dealing with wolves for centuries. It's not that they don't adapt to them, however, it does make it a challenge because they learn to quit bugling. They learn to be unresponsive to calling more nocturnal, so don't bugle. Speaker1: And in so doing, you're not announcing your exact location to a wolf pack.
