Ted's elk

If you remember from yesterday, Ted Kuch had been stalking a bull elk in the company of a herd of cows when he heard this odd noise. We pick up the story. “So I'm sitting there and I don't hear anything for a while. And then another minute or two and I hear you this noise. Now I'm apoplectic. I'm like, who's ruined by hunt? Somebody up there sawing a log.

I cannot make sense of any of this. I mean, there's just an elk herd right there. And there's this I swear to God, it’s somebody sawing a log, that's exactly what it sounds like. I persuaded myself that that's reality. Right. So I stand there for another two minutes and I've just got my bow. I still have my arrow knocked. And I think, I'm looking up there like should I go up there and talk to this person or should I just bail on this or what? And then again, I hear the noise but this time it's closer. There’s a roll on the hill, about 35 yards up. And all of a sudden I see a whole bunch of white antler tips laid flat back and with every rock of the antler tips, I hear that noise. And pretty soon the top of his head and the top of his back comes into view, and then his whole body comes into view. And it's this big six point bull elk in full strut, just expressing himself with all the might, more than you can imagine. It was incredibly compelling. And this bull is strutting along 35 yards above me. And I was like, oh, my God.
