BC Guide outfitters is owned by Mark Werner. Hunting has always been in Mark’s blood given that his father was a guide and his grandfather lived in the wilderness as a hunter, fisherman and log home builder. Mark left the guide business a few years ago and moved into town to work an executive job. He realized after some time that he missed guiding too much so we pick up the story from there. “We now have three different territories that we operate out of. We hunt goat, grizzly, black bear, moose, mule deer, we do wolf hunt’s, lynx hunts, so we do a full gamut of over nine different big game hunting species. I was actually speaking with my uncle, who was 85 yesterday, and they would actually can 300 quarts of huckleberries, 300 quarts of wild blueberries, and over 400 quarts of most meet all cut up into pieces and made into stews and peppered, garlic gravy sauces. They were canned because they had no refrigeration. We have two basic camps and over 20 remote spike camp cabins and tent locations, over 150 established cut trails, and over 20 platform stands strategically placed over moose meadows and swamps. So it is quite a busy operation. It is pretty much year round except for the show circuit. We spend all summer cutting trails, hauling in boats, working on cabins so it is quite a good life.
