Jody Olson is avid about a number of things, but really passionate about dogs and hunting chucker. In fact, that’s the only type of hunting he really likes to do anymore. I recently chatted with old friend Jody and he shared some considerations with regard to hunting in winter, particularly when snow is on the ground. The footing on the rocks is critical and when you get heavy snow and then it warms up a little bit and accumulates more water, it becomes even more slick. The other thing is that birds tend to accumulate in different locales depending upon the amount of snow. If it is a light snow, chucker hunters like that because the birds will accumulate below and on the tops of the ridges. And then of course the roads have to be frozen so that you can access the remote parts of the region. If they are wet you may not get out. You may have to stay in until they freeze back up.
