With your Southeast Regional Ag News, I am Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network.

We are just over a month away from a “Small Ruminant Short Course” that’ll be happening September 16 and 17 in conjunction with the 2022 University of Florida Ram Test and Sale. And right now it’s the invite timeframe. Producers, extension specialists and agents, researchers, students, and allied industry members are all welcome. It’s being held at the Straughn Professional Development Center in Gainesville.

I spoke with two of the presenters last week.

Dr. Catalina Cabrera is a veterinarian who has been working with production animals for almost 20 years…

“This is the first year that we are doing it. We are focusing on general husbandry and management. We have realized that a lot of our producers are relatively new and so we want to get them a good start in their production systems.”

The agenda includes everything from parasite control and herd health to rotational grazing and foot rot.

Dr. Isabella Toldeo is also going to bring in a discussion about mastitis….

“The climate here being hot and humid, we can have a lot of the development of different bacterias and other organisms that can cause mastitis.”

Get the agenda and register by visiting the extension arm of the University of Florida’s website.
