Side Planer

An article in the Idaho statesman had as its headline, side planers improve the odds for sure anglers. It turns out that Eric Jones of Grangeville was fishing the Salmon River watching his deep diving plug drift through a steelie run. Eric wasn't in a drift boat. He was bank fishing and still able to get the lower way out into the river and let it do its thing. The article piqued my interest so I called Sean Mann and asked about planers. “When you put them on your line, what they do, without them if you put your line in the water it goes straight down stream. You put the side planer on and what it does as it works its way across the stream at about a 40° angle and will take you all the way to the other side. Then you can just back it downstream like you would a boat. Your line goes over to the other side of the river and the side planer holds you in that spot. When you get a fish, it hits the release on the side planer and you reel them in. What do they cost? $10.99 for our Les Davis model, it's called the Hotshot and then there is another one called the Sidewinder and that is $14.99. We also have one you use for trolling and boats and that is $34.99.
