Peanut Producers and those involved in the peanut industry meet this week for the annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show and Conference. Peanuts are a huge commodity in Georiga as well as neighboring states.

Joy Crosby with the Georgia Peanut Commission says Georgia farmers produce about half of all the United States’ peanuts each year and create thousands of jobs…

Crosby: “The farmers that produce and grow the peanuts but then you also have the workers at the local peanut buying points which is the first point where farmers actually sell their peanuts. Then you have employees of peanut-shelling plants and blanchers. You have equipment manufacturers that are making equipment for farmers to use but also shellers in addition to other agriculture equipment. Then you have food processors that are developing all the wonderful food products that we get from peanuts and peanut butter.”
