Silencers

Most people believe that silencers do not have any practical purpose. Hollywood has done a fantastic job of demonizing silencers by mostly putting them into the hands of the villains who silently kill and terrorize on the silver screen. Josh Waldron, CEO of SilencerCo is attempting to change that perception by focusing on the hearing of hunters. “Silences do not make a gun silent. They just suppress the noise down to beneath the hearing safe level of 140 dB which is a benchmark set by OSHA. You still have supersonic cracking of the bullet in the flight and there is still muzzle report, there’s still port noise and all the stuff that you can tell a firearm has been shot but it is just quieter. It is a suppressor more than it is a silencer. So why have they been used for hunting? As you know, if you are a hunter walking through the field or wilderness or whatever, you are not going to wear hearing protection because you need to hear your surroundings. Auditory awareness is a key to hunting. If you see something that you have been tracking, you surely are not going to wait for a second while you put hearing protection on, you’re going to take that shot as soon as possible.
