Does Brian King Use Guides

Had a great chat with good friend, and excellent sportsman, Brian King, about some recent adventures that he's had and some of his thoughts on guides. Caught the fish of a lifetime on the Deschutes River. Steelhead in September with Marty Shepherd, the guide down there on the Deschutes. And it was just a fantastic day. And I know they say it's a thousand casts with a spay rod per fish, is what I was told, but it was the first time doing it. And I think I had counted about twelve hundred casts before I finally got this guy. You just mentioned, Marty Shepherd, who's a guide on the Deschute. Do you always use a guide or do you go alone sometimes? I kind of do both. If I haven't been to a spot before. It's a new river and a new stretch. I always get a guide. I mean, I think they're just worth their weight in gold and might even take them twice. But then after that, I'd love to take my own boat and venture out and practice what they've taught me. It just kind of depends. But I'm a big fan of getting guides and I think it's absolutely worth the money. If you're going to travel and have a destination trip like that, you want to have some success and the probability goes higher and higher with a guide with you. So between your successes and having the time of your life, my assumption is probably not too far stretched. I guess you must have some other trips planned this year. I'm already booking my calendar for this year. I've got the Big Hole in Montana for a couple of trips. I've got Henry’s Fork again. I'd love to get back to the Walawa. We'll have to see when the water comes down a little bit. I should ask him if I could tag along.
