Colorado Corn growers may have good reason to be optimistic.

The Colorado Corn Administrative Committee is set to hold its Spring Forum on the 24th. Executive Director Nick Colglazier says producers attending the online forum will hear the latest forecast for grain markets.

Colglazier: “There is some pretty great news coming out. We just learned that China bought another 95 million bushels of corn on top of everything they’ve already bought this year. We’re going to have a couple of grain markers, one with the United States Grains Council to go over what’s going on with the grains market on a global scale as well as what’s going on here locally.”

As of last week, U.S. corn export sales for 2020-21 totaled 59.5 million tonnes, some 90% of USDA’s target, well ahead of the recent average of 71%.

Colglazier: “When you see such high demand for corn in China and Mexico and Japan and all of our trading partners, that’s what really moves markets. That’s what saying the stocks to use ratios are going to be much lower this year and that’s what’s going to drive higher prices for our corn farmers in general. “

Producers will also hear forecasts from the US Meat Export Federation and from the Dairy Farmers of America during the online forum.

Colglazier says producers who attend the entire forum have an opportunity to attend a Pesticide Applicator Workshop at no cost, the following day.
