Deer hunting year-round is a pipe dream in most places, but exploding whitetail herds in suburban Virginia has created a different kind of deer season. On the properties where Tayler Chamberlin and Billy Phillips have been hunting for years, they’ve finally noticed a dip in deer numbers—which is the whole point. Homeowners call the two bowhunters weekly, offering places to hunt in exchange for management of overpopulated deer herds. “Suburban saddle hunting isn’t the sole future of deer hunting in America,” writes Senior Editor Natalie Krebs, “but it’s certainly one form that we’re going to see more often.”
