ETHEREAL: of or relating to the regions beyond the earth... celestial...heavenly. And that seems to be and exact description of how our mostly fishing but also a reasonable amount of hunting correspondent Josh Mills feels about this time of the year. “As a sportsman, this is the cup runneth full time of the year. You just take your pick and it is go time. Bow hunters have been at it over a month now, I know muzzle loading is about to start here in Washington state, general deer season comes up October 12, pheasant season and any upland birds are going to be open October 1, and it is also a great time to be a steelhead and salmon fisherman. It’s one of those times you wish you could encapsulate for a few more weeks before the real cold weather hits but there is nothing better than getting out on your favorite stream or chasing some birds or tracking down a big buck this time of year because it is that kind of time of the year. You look forward to crisp mornings where you put on an extra layer but by midday it’s nice and light outside and it is that transition portion of the year that gets that hunter and fisherman fired up inside of me. Just get out there and enjoy everything you can because this is the time. This is the holy grail on the calendar. Yes sir. The month of October I look forward to. July and August are for the birds, I want to see those cold mornings and the leaves turn. I want to break out the blaze orange, the camel and the spey rods and get after it.
