Modernizing Water Resources

This week, President Trump signed an Executive Order on “Modernizing America’s Water Resource Management and Water Infrastructure.”

This action formally establishes a Water Subcabinet of to facilitate efficient modernization of our water supply systems.

Here’s Brenda Burman, Commissioner of the United States Bureau of Reclamation.

Burman… “Back in 2018, the president signed a memo to all of his cabinet secretaries telling us to make Western water more reliable. And it's not since John F. Kennedy, that we've had a president who is more committed to Western water supplies and finding water for farmers and families. It's been decades since we've had a president who would focus on Western water, and particularly California, like he has. So that's what we've done. That's what we've been committed to is making water supplies more reliable for farmers and families in California.”

Burman says in recent years, both state and federal employees have collaborated to start gathering the latest scientific information to update how water projects work.

Burman… “So we are operating at the Central Valley Project under that new operating system. We have seen it be more flexible. We've seen it be better for fish. We've seen it be better for habitat. And that's the way that we've been modernizing our operations.”
