In a conversation with salt water fisherman Nick Koontz, he had some tips about not over casting. We were talking about fishing for permits. “When see one, you need to actually cast within a dinner plate of their face. you need to see them under water. you use a little crab fly and once you get it close, you can twitch a little bit or barely strip it in. If you go to fast it scares them. You're a tennis player so you understand the concept of touch. You have to be able to cast a fly rod to catch any kind of salt water fish. you have to be able to what is called double haul cast. Describe that cast. When people Flyfish they pulled back there line. if you just do that again as you are going forward with your rod and pull back your line again. it is two pulls instead of one. It gives you much more power to shoot it out there. you see a lot of people who are saltwater fly fishing they are back and forth and that's not good. The fish will swim off.
