Boise police officer Tom Miotke is an avid hunter he had his first experience with a whitetail in Northern Idaho. He was in a blind about 100 yards from his buddy when he heard his friend’s gun go off. Tom yelled “did you get one” at the top of his lungs.”You know I know better but I had to yell out again “did you get one”? I still heard nothing from my friend. Then I take a short right turn and I am facing within 20 yards one of the most beautiful Whitetail bucks I have ever seen either live or in a magazine. He’s sitting there staring at me so I have my opportunity. This is it, my first big Whitetail Hunt, of course I made all of the classic mistakes by jumping up out of my blind and running around yelling but the good Lord gave me this but 20 yards in front of me so I slowly pulled up on him and I had this high-powered scope and I could probably make out two hairs on his head. I pulled the trigger and click. I had no round in the gun. He took off like a lightning bolt. Maybe my training and instinct kicked in and I don’t even remember chambering a round and pulling up but I saw between this thick timber this one opening about the size of a door on a house and as that Buck hit that spot 50 yards away and I pulled back on the trigger and dropped him like a sack of potatoes.
