CFAP Deadline Pt 1

With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Ranking member on the state Senate’s agriculture-related committee, Senator Judy Warnick is welcoming news from the federal government that more commodities are now eligible for aid from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

But the news comes in the midst of harvest season for many and Warnick is trying to encourage all farmers to check and see if they qualify before it’s too late …

WARNICK … “That’s exactly what we’re trying to do and, unfortunately, the deadline that was put out with this new release is August 28th, so not very long. And, you’re right, it’s the wrong time of year to be filling out paperwork if you’re a farmer. You want to be out on the tractor or some other piece of equipment.”

The USDA, Warnick says is trying to help expediate the process …

WARNICK … “And, I think they are trying to make it a little bit easier for farmers to fill out the application as quickly as possible, not a lot of certification as a certified farmer is needed at this time. You can fill in some of those blanks later.”

Or, Warnick says pick up the phone and call …

WARNICK … “I think the best way is to go online or call, call your local Farm Service office so that you can find whether your crop is eligible.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the CFAP deadline which coming up quickly, August 28th.
