A number of years ago I was at an ag Convention in Phoenix and I met up with the folks at Bayer Chemical and interviewed several people who were interested in saving bees. That impressed me given that I have done dozens and dozens of stories about these little insects without which, life on this planet as we know it might cease to exist. Well, as it turns out, The Bayer Feed a Bee Program was established in 2015 to increase food and habitat for honey bees and other pollinators across the country. The initiative’s goal was to get pollinator-attracting plants and flowers into all 50 states by the end of 2018, which they accomplished. Dr. Becky Langer-Curry is project manager with North American Bee Health and Forward Farming. She talks about why Bayer cares about bee health as a company dedicated to growing abundant and nutritious food. “Bayer is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable agricultural practices including the protection of our pollinator populations the world population is expected to grow to more than 10 billion people by 2050 requiring 70 percent more food in many of the fruits and vegetables we need in our healthy diets rely on pollination by insects like the bees only natural food source is plants they require nectar and pollen from plants to feed themselves and the rest of the hives.”

Such an important mission given what we know about CCD Colony Collapse Disorder.
