Thanks to the great people of Ducks Unlimited and their conservation efforts there is an abundance of waterfowl in North America and that makes for great hunting. If it’s ducks you love, then you have to call ‘em in. Listen to Ben Doherty. “It really just depends on almost manipulating the call to get the right sound and the right notes down. Excellent advice, is there anyone double reed that you recommend? It is tough to get away from the Buck Gardeners. It’s the Double Nasty. What do they bring to the table? Just the sound. It’s easy to blow on and puts out a pretty realistic sound on that call and they are cheap. Not expensive at all either. Nobody wants to go out and spend $100 on a duck call when they are just getting into it. Any time you are blowing a duck call you wanted to sound like a hen because the hand is really the only one that is making that quack noise. What you are trying to do is lure a group of ducks in by sounding realistic. The things you want in that call our, how loud it is, the realistic sound and then the notes you put out. What do you want to do? A feeder call or a hail call but the big thing is, you are sounding like a hen to pull them in. So what she is saying is, hey guys, there is good food here and it is safe. There is safety in numbers so they want to get big groups of birds to come in and be safe. You are calling them in during migration
