**Many Americans have been snacking more during shelter-in-place protocols.

A survey commissioned by the California Walnut Board shows nearly half of respondents acknowledging they have been snacking more, with 40% saying they expect that trend to continue as the mandates recede.

About 30% said their snacking had led to weight gain. The Walnut Board says people might avoid that by snacking on walnuts.

**The USDA announced it has purchased more than $2.2 billion of meat, fruits, vegetables, specialty crops and dairy products in fiscal years 2019 and 2020.

This was part of ongoing efforts to feed people in need and assist American farmers and ranchers suffering from damage due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations.

USDA is on target to reach its fiscal year goal of about $1.4 billion of trade mitigation purchases in the next phase of fiscal year purchasing, which ends September 30.

**Bayer AG will scrap a nearly $1 billion project to produce the chemical dicamba in the U.S., but the move is unrelated to a federal court decision that blocked sales of weed killers based on the product.

The German-based company is moving to save cash as it wages an expensive legal battle to fight allegations that another product, its glyphosate-based weed killer Roundup, causes cancer, something Bayer denies.

Bayer is halting work on a new dicamba plant in Louisiana.
