**Farmers and ranchers who’ve suffered losses related to COVID-19 are now able to apply for a federal aid program.

The USDA announced last week that signups will begin tomorrow, May 26th, for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

The American Farm Bureau says many farmers have faced “unprecedented losses” from a breakdown in distribution channels.

**R-CALF USA sent a letter to President Trump commending his suggestion the U.S. consider halting imports of cheaper cattle from countries that have not treated American ranchers fairly.

R-CALF stated during the COVID-19 crisis, importers have been displacing American ranchers’ access to their own market with tens of thousands of imported live cattle each week.

The group says this is unconscionable given American ranchers have cattle to sell but because of the crisis, have no market.

**How much is COVID-19 impacting agriculture?

Mark Opperman, of Black Dirt Communications, surveyed people at more than 50 ag companies and nearly 40% said they’re down a bit, just over a quarter are about the same, 12.1% are doing better, and nearly one in five say it's too early to tell.

Only 18.2% said they’ll be ready to hit the ground running when things return to normal. About 38% say it’ll take a few weeks, 32.7% say at least six months and just over 10% say it’ll be a year or more before they recover.
