I have a good friend or after hearing him you may think a good character who is an avid outdoorsman. He loves all kinds of fly fishing, a little bit of big game hunting, as in elk or mulies, but when it comes to bird hunting his favorite is chuckar.

Chris Claunch is a five-star cook and an avid chuckar hunter. Here he is with his reasons why. “My favorite kind of bird hunting is chuckar hunting however it requires the most effort. Many of the guys I go chuckar hunting with our hockey players. They are in shape. We have found some great chucker hunting and some great spots upon the Snake River Canyon both in Idaho and over the border into Oregon. It is certainly not for the faint of heart but we have had great luck over the years. You have to be willing to make the walk. It is great for the dogs but just as painful for the dogs so there’s a lot of sleep that goes on on the way home. Chuckars run up the hill and when you get to the top they they fly down the hill and if you don’t get them on the way down you have to walk back down the hill and chase them up again. I think they were called something else that rhymes with chuckars before they were named chuckars because it is absolutely the most challenging hunting that I have ever done.
