Clear Lakes Products is a privately held ag support company in Filer, ID that provides dairy and industrial chemicals such as products to clean dairy lagoons and control the massive amounts of dust that surround dairy operations. They say they’ll work with their customers to develop products that best suit their customers needs. But now…they offer a totally different type of product that they never envisioned manufacturing. Owner James Holesinsky says they are now producing hand sanitizer…”because we manufacture a lot of other chemicals in bulk and whatnot. As time went on and we saw this, the epidemic thing going on in China, like I should probably do something here. And then when when we realized that there was massive amounts of shortages and, you know, people buying it out of stores, we decided we would venture into that just to help locally.”

After a huge first run of sanitizer they started running out of supplies. Production is just a fraction of what it was “we will sell probably 90 percent of our stock today.” And Clearlake chief financial officer Corey McDonald is frustrated. “It was super easy to get into. And then we just started running into the snags with all isopropyl that we'd been allocated, getting pulled from inventory and the packaging. I mean, we could do three to five thousand gallons a day if we had the support, you know, to be able to get the product and the packaging.” As the price of alcohol skyrockets and gets harder to find, production costs skyrockets. But Holesinsky will keep producing sanitising not for the money, but to help people who need it for the boy survive.
